Need a MOnet Workspace?
Bits Republic Technologies
How My Own Bits (MOB) ensures online privacy The Technology

Enterprises need to share sensitive data with their clients and colleagues, but email, FTP servers, web storage providers, peered data networks, in-house data servers and cloud platforms all pose serious challenges to security, privacy, and control. My Own Bits™ (MOB) technology by Bits Republic provides a practical means to share sensitive data online with complete confidence, flexibility, control, and safety.

The My Own Bits Solution:

My Own Bits solutions encrypt data at the client, and send it online via a secure channel to a centralized or cloud based, fault tolerant, storage server, where it is stored in its encrypted state. The storage host never holds the keys, and serves encrypted data to an authorized user's client machine or server, where it is decrypted locally.

Only authorized users ever have access to MOB files, and authorized users always use their own unique passwords. Products and services enabled by My Own Bits technologies are secure; sharing files never involves sharing passwords.

The MOB approach provides significant advantages over existing technologies:

  • Unlike e-mail, MOB has no file size limitations, control over documents is retained even after transmission, and privacy requirements in most jurisdictions are fulfilled;
  • Unlike FTP, MOB solutions involve no complex setups or maintenance;
  • Unlike traditional servers, MOB involves no expensive hardware, maintenance or upgrade costs;
  • Unlike online storage solutions, MOB enables users to retain access to their files even without an Internet connection;
  • ... and unlike all currently available technologies, MOB prevents access to your files from ANY unauthorized users, including the storage provider and Bits Republic.

MOB-based solutions are unique in that decryption keys are never stored remotely, so no trust is placed in the policies of the cloud vendor.
As such, this technology provides the strongest possible assurance that data does not fall into the wrong internal or external hands and that relevant areas of HIPAA, GLBA, and PIPEDA requirements involving security and privacy are met or exceeded

Technical Details:

MOB uses peer-reviewed enterprise-grade encryption technology to provide full online privacy. Data is encrypted at the source using a thin client application and then transferred via a secure pipe layer (SSL1) through the Internet to a dedicated, secure, fault tolerant, storage server. The data, encrypted using current peer-reviewed encryption technology (currently AES and RSA), is secured in a way that even Bits Republic Technologies, Inc. or the storage host cannot decipher it.

Data can be shared with others using access control. Access to the data can be through a full featured thin client or a web-based portal. The platform is flexible enough to enable authorized users to view the data using any device (mobile, laptop or desktop). The thin client allows data to be accessible even when not connected to the Internet, and automatic synchronization ensures that online data is up to date when reconnected to the Internet.

As  encryption standards improve over time, MOB automatically rekeys all online files and updates clients automatically with the new standards ensuring long term online privacy for clients. By adopting cutting edge peer-reviewed encryption technology, data is managed from cradle-to-grave with a high level of security.
