Enterprises need to share sensitive data with their clients and colleagues, but email, FTP servers, web storage providers, peered data networks, in-house data servers and current cloud offerings all pose serious challenges to security, privacy, and control. My Own Bits™ technology by Bits Republic provides a practical means to share sensitive data online with complete confidence, flexibility, control, and safety. Client-side encryption My Own Bits™ technology assures that storage hosts never hold decryption keys. All our users' cryptographic keys are generated locally on their computers. All data is encrypted and decrypted at the client level, and sent online via a secure channel to an online storage server, where it is stored in its encrypted state. This encrypted data is then served to authorized users' notebooks, computers, or servers for local decryption. The storage host, its employees, its suppliers, its partners, and any other outside parties can never gain access to client data.
Online key management services Unlike conventional storage providers, our services provide complete encrypted security, but our users do not share their passwords in order to share their documents. The Internet provides an ideal platform for sharing and collaborating on all types of documents, but its open architecture places sensitive data at risk from unauthorized access. Unfortunately conventional encryption methods make sharing very difficult, especially with multiple parties. The My Own Bits™ platform offers a set of APIs to implement a highly sophisticated key management system that allows users to securely share their documents with many individuals, while maintaining the privacy of these documents from everyone else, including the service provider itself. Workspace ownership Administrators have complete control over documents and user access. Client-side encryption transfers the ownership of documents from the service provider to the document creator by ensuring that storage and application providers have no access to secret (decryption) keys. This becomes an issue when documents created by a user are not owned by the individual, but rather are owned by the organization that the user belongs to. The My Own Bits™ platform enables organizations to retain ownership in much the same way that they do with local server-based systems. Compliance No trust is placed in the policies of the cloud vendor. As such, relevant areas of HIPAA, GLBA, and PIPEDA requirements involving security and privacy are met or exceeded. By performing encryption at the source, My Own Bits™ technology assures that no unauthorized users, including the online service and storage vendor itself, is ever able to access client data. This model provides the strongest possible assurance that data does not fall into the wrong internal or external hands. Secure and High Availability Storage Benefit from all of the advantages of secure, persistent, redundant storage without worrying about unauthorized access. We have chosen Amazon as the online storage provider to host our clients' encrypted data. Amazon has provided an acclaimed storage platform with its 'S3' offering: a highly scalable, high availability storage service. Our system therefore offers the best of both worlds: world-class storage and complete security: neither Amazon nor Bits Republic ever have access to the keys that decrypt our clients' documents.
